Brief History of Jigme Losel Primary School



Jigme Losel Primary School was first started in a private building in Chubachu from 1987 to 1989 with Mr. Penjor as the Principal. There were fifteen teachers and one hundred fifty students. The school had classes PP and I with a total of four sections.


The school was then shifted to the present location from March 1990 with Mr. Tshewang Dukpa as the Principal. Today, the school is 26 years old and Mrs Choki Dukpa is the Principal with thirty eight teachers and eight hundred and three students. The school has classes from PP - VI, with 21 sections. Most of the students are from Chubachu community and is a day school.
Location
The school has an area of 88 decimals and is located below Hotel Taj Tashi, next to the BPCL Head Office and between two urban roads. Within the small compound, the school actively imparts skills on organic farming and floriculture. 

Programmes
Programmes like Mid-Day Feeding (2009), Early Child Care (2011), Clean Toilets (2011), Disaster Management (2008), Waste Management(2009), WASH (Water Sanitation Hygiene Programme-2009), and GNH SEED school (2009) are initiated by the school.

Extra Co-Curricular Activities
“Learning to Live Together” is the school motto and aims to provide activities that promote holistic learning such as Sharing Time (Life Skills Education & Citizenship program), Buddy Interaction, Street Play, Assembly Performance, House Parent, Performing and Visual Arts, Aerobics, Green Day, Choechey Layrim (Mind training, Prayer Time) and Showcasing of the activities of the year.

The school caters community services such as cleaning campaign, adoption of stream and a section of Wangchhu river, cleaning the two urban roads which are above and below the school and tree plantation (Social Forestry Day) and also My Tree Project.

Our special bonding with the community led to Parent Partnership program. The parents volunteer in carrying out the Feeding program of the school, assist teachers in the class management & organization, conduct of cultural activities, cleaning campaigns and fund raising program. The Chubachu community also volunteers to contribute for the feeding program in kind. 

Awards
The school won many awards at the Thromde, Dzongkhag, National and International levels. The school contested with seventy eight contestants from twenty five countries and won the 2011 Wenhui Awards for Educational Innovation. Representatives of the school attended the Award Ceremony in China.

-    Support academically weak students through remedial/coaching and extra classes.
-    Through students support services identification and support of less fortunate students .
-  Support quality teaching-learning by monitoring constantly.
-  Base teaching on 3Rs- Relevancy, Rigour and Relationship
-   Provide quality education to students and be responsive to the expectation of the country.
-    Impart values related to education, self and others, civic responsibilities through Curricular        and Extra-curricular practices.
-  Apply GHN values and be the change
